We have a fun and spooky Halloween party with our homeschool co-op in a few days, and I signed up to bring something sweet. So I decided to make brown butter and toasted marshmallow rice crispy treats. My mom brought over these adorable Halloween sprinkles from Trader Joe’s. I love the subtle colors and that they are dye free. So I went to the store and bought two more bags!
Ingredients:
12 ounces rice cereal
20 ounces mini marshmallows
2 sticks salted butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
About 4 ounces sprinkles
Method:
First, brown the butter in a pan, once it smells nutty and you can see little brown bits, add 10 ounces of marshmallows and the salt then mix together.
Next, place the other 10 ounces of marshmallows on a baking tray and place under the broiler. Watch these carefully! Once the marshmallows reach your desired toastyness, take them out.
Now, place the cereal, half of the sprinkles, the melted marshmallow mixture and the toasted marshmallows into a bowl and mix together.
Put the mixture into a 9x13 pan and leave till completely cool. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Makes 24, 2 inch squares.
I sure hope you give these a try this Halloween! Honestly, I made a double batch of these so we could have some for our family, and they were gone in two days!
